Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia in Swedish on the "Rape of Lucretia") was written for the legendarska British contralto Kathleen Ferrier , and was premiered at Glyndebourne in 1946. Britten's chamber opera written for postwar limited resources - for eight soloists and an orchestra of thirteen musicians. The story takes place in ancient Rome , and is about fidelity, lust for power , male betting, and how vulnerable people - especially women - get in wartime. Britten's music is flowing beautiful and full of compassion for Lucretia's fate - commented with heightened horror and grief of the two narrators . The set of Lucretia implemented with support from the National Kulturåd , Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation , Mora Municipality and Vattnäs Konsertladas friends association .
